Alcoholism

It is hard to define Alcoholism in a single word or sentence. Many people don’t know full truth and facts about alcoholism. There are two terms; alcohol abuse and alcoholism and it’s very important to know the basic difference between the both. The following information explains alcoholism and alcohol abuse, its symptoms and cure.

What Is Alcoholism?
Alcoholism, also known as "alcohol dependence", is a disease that indicates following symptoms:

  • Craving: A compulsive desire to drink. This is the primary symptom of Alcoholism, which proves addiction.
  • Loss of control: It is believed that one should confine the consumption of alcohol, which really makes it healthy. But if it is consumed beyond any limits, then it becomes a sickness.
  • Physical dependence: When heavy consumption of alcohol is stopped, then one can experience withdrawal symptoms, for instance nausea, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety.
  • Tolerance: This is the fourth symptom, which indicates the need to consume greater amounts of alcohol in order to "get high".

What Is Alcohol Abuse?
Generally, people employ both the terms, alcoholism and alcohol abuse, for the same habit. But in real sense, Alcohol abuse is different from Alcoholism in that it does not include an extremely strong craving and high dependency on alcohol. Alcohol abuse is defined as a pattern of drinking that results in one or more of the following situations within a 12-month period:

  • Failure to accomplish major work, in office or home.
  • Drinking while driving a car or operating machinery, which is dangerous;
  • Frequency in facing alcohol-related legal problems, such as being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or for physically hurting someone while drunk; and
  • Continued drinking despite having ongoing relationship problems that are caused or worsened by the drinking.

Realize your problem
It is very important to figure out whether the person persists drinking problem or not. Following analysis may realize the fact:

  • If a person feels that he/ she should cut down on the drinking, then it indicates the problem;
  • If your drinking habit annoys others, then you and your drinking problem is destroying the surrounding peace;
  • If you feel bad or guilty about your drinking, then you are overdoing the habit;
  • If you have started drinking in the morning also, then it’s high time for you get out of this habit.

Any of the above possibilities indicates your alcohol problem. In any case, you must take an appointment with your doctor to discuss your health and future.

Consequences, good or bad? JUDGE yourself
If not confined, then the consequences of alcohol misuse can be very serious, for instance; in many cases it is life threatening too. Heavy drinking can increase the risk for certain cancers, especially those of the liver, esophagus, throat, and larynx (voice box). Moreover, can cause liver cirrhosis, immune system problems, brain damage, and harm to the fetus during pregnancy. In short, alcoholism means “Sufferings and Death” to mankind.

Sometimes, Alcoholism can be genetic too. Doctors and experts believe that belonging to an alcoholic family may be one of the reasons, which probes the person to drink without any problem or tension. Additionally, environment, culture, group, family, all these play a major role in cultivating this habit into one’s veins.

A way out to it: Say NO to it
After accepting the fact that one does need aid, the problem becomes child’s play. We believe that alcoholism can be treated, but till now no specific cure or treatment has been planned for the problem person. In other words, even if an alcoholic has been sober for a long time and has regained health, he or she remains susceptible to relapse and must continue to avoid all alcoholic beverages. “Cutting down” or “Slow down” on drinking doesn’t work; throwing away alcohol is necessary for a successful and happy recovery.

It is important for us to understand that alcoholism is an illness and it requires a proper cure. Over all it is also important to have faith in oneself. Faith in God and commitment to yourself is required for this fight. More importantly, there is no need to be guilty for it. One cannot blame someone for having cancer, or heart disease, even though some of their behaviors may have contributed to their disease.

So, if you or your loved ones have realized the fact and accepted the problem valiantly, then we are here with stretched arms to support your decision and assist you in getting rid of it. Feel free to contact our support team and give us a chance to show you a whole new world of love and happiness.
